About Us

Dr. Miranda Kalaskey is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry who brings a passion for prevention, a love for children, and a playful energy to every visit. A West Virginia native, Dr. Kalaskey is thrilled to open her pediatric dental practice close to home — and even closer to her father, a practicing orthodontist in the same space! Inspired by her roots and her role as the oldest of six siblings, she has always felt a natural connection to working with children. With a warm, kangaroo-like approach, she creates a safe and cheerful environment where young patients can hop into the dental chair with confidence and leave smiling.
Dr. Kalaskey completed dental school at West Virginia University, and then a General Practice Residency (GPR) in New York, focusing on special needs and medically complex patients. Lastly, she completed her Pediatric Dental Residency at East Carolina University after extensive training in behavior management and hospital-based care. She is passionate about creating positive dental experiences and empowering families to prevent cavities before they start. Whether she’s staying up to date on the latest in pediatric dentistry or chatting with patients about their favorite movies, Dr. Kalaskey believes every visit is an opportunity to make dental health fun, efficient, and stress-free for kids and parents alike.

Our Mission
At Kalaskey Pediatric Dentistry, our mission is to provide efficient, high-quality dental care that keeps little smiles hopping healthy from the start. Just like a kangaroo gently carries her joey, we care for each child with comfort, compassion, and a focus on prevention — helping families build strong oral habits that last a lifetime. AAPD recommends a first tooth or first birthday for a child’s first dental visit so bring your little roo in to see us soon!

Our Services
Age One Dental Visit
Sealants
Fillings
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children have their first dental checkup by their first birthday. This early visit allows us to check for any signs of cavities, review how to properly care for your child’s teeth and gums, and discuss important developmental milestones. It’s a great opportunity to establish healthy habits and make your little one feel comfortable at the dentist from the very start.
Dental sealants are thin, protective coatings that are applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth — where cavities are most likely to form. By sealing the natural grooves and pits, sealants help prevent food and bacteria from getting trapped and keep your child’s smile cavity-free. Sealants can fall off over time but the goal is to protect the teeth during the high risk years!
When a small cavity forms in a tooth, a filling is used to fix the space and stop the decay from spreading. This procedure helps protect the tooth and can prevent the need for more extensive treatment later on. Dr. Kalaskey will recommend a filling if the cavity is small and your child’s behavior allows for safe, successful treatment in the dental chair.
Treating Children With Special Healthcare Needs
Every child deserves access to compassionate, high-quality dental care. For children with special healthcare needs, we offer efficient thoughtful dental care. We try to personalize the visit and give you support to ensure every visit is as smooth as possible.
Crowns
Crowns are protective caps placed over baby teeth that have been weakened by decay/cavities or injury. They help restore strength, function, and appearance until the permanent teeth come in. Crowns are often recommended when a cavity is medium to large in size, if your child is receiving sedation, or if their behavior makes traditional fillings difficult. In some cases, silver crowns can be placed non-invasively using a technique called the Hall Crown method. Unlike adult crowns, baby tooth crowns are completed in a single visit — no temporary crowns or return appointments needed!
Fluoride Treatments
(SDF and Varnish)
Fluoride helps strengthen tooth enamel and protect against cavities. While many children get fluoride through drinking water, some may benefit from an additional topical fluoride treatment applied right here in our office — especially if they’re at higher risk for tooth decay. Silver Dimine Fluoride is a non-invasive treatment we will offer if it could be beneficial to your child.
Space Maintainers
If a baby tooth is lost too early, we may recommend a space maintainer — a small appliance that keeps the empty space open until the adult tooth is ready to come in. This helps ensure proper alignment and can reduce the chance of complex orthodontic issues in the future.
Sedation Dentistry
Emergency Dental Treatment
For children who are especially anxious, have special needs, or require extensive treatment, sedation dentistry can provide a calm and comfortable experience. We offer sedation options tailored to your child’s needs so that every visit feels easier — for both kids and parents.
Accidents happen — and we’re here when they do. If your child suffers a dental injury, such as a chipped, dislodged, or knocked-out tooth, call our office right away. For severe or life-threatening injuries, please call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room first.
